  • Static sensitive devices -  Remove from anti-static packaging only when ready to install
  • Burn / Injury warning - Device surface and heatsinks could reach temperatures that could burn and injure. Allow devices to cool before touching.
  • Possible Fire Hazard -  Do not leave controller running unattended, to be installed by knowledgeable individuals only. 
  • Damage to device - Power off main supply before attempting to install or detach any driver module. Avoid cutting off at DC source while motors are running. Do not disconnect motors from main board while powered. Observe correct orientation when mounting driver modules.

# INITIAL POWER UP -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power supply notes:

  • The X5 GT has 2 separate power supply inputs. Input 1 for Headbed, Hotends and main logic supply. Input 2 for stepper drivers. For single power supply applications connect input 2 to Input 1 terminals as shown on the wiring diagram. 
  • The X5 GT has galvanic USB isolation and cannot be powered from USB line. 

The X5 GT ships with the bootloader installed and smoothieware firmware flashed. Only thing it needs to boot properly is a config file on the SD card before power up.

  • Download sample config file and copy to SD card. Insert to micro SD card slot on the board.
  • Connect power supply to board inputs
  • Download Windows driver and keep smoothie driver page open as guide.

With SD card inserted, turn on main power supply. Windows will detect a new device plugged in and will try to install drivers. Follow Smoothie's Windows driver guide linked above to install serial USB drivers. If driver installation is successful the SD card will open up in Windows as a drive that you can open from My Computer. You can use this Windows' mounted drive for transferring gcode files and uploading new firmware.

The Azteeg X5 GT has 5 driver slots. It supports both Pololu style drivers and Panucatt's Bigfoot driver profile. Both profiles support digital current adjustment when using Panucatt stepper drivers. When using 3rd party drivers only manual current control can be used.

Setting Current limit for stepper driver using smoothieware's config file.

Each driver current limit can be set using the line below. Locate each line on the config file and set individually. Setting is in Amperes, 1.0 Amp. Reboot board to apply settings. These will work for Panucatt Drivers with digipot control, SD6128, SD5984, SD8825, BSD109A and BSD2100
